Where Ships Dock in Copenhagen

The Copenhagen cruise port is run by Copenhagen Malmö Port, which operates three cruise sites. Oceankaj, in the newer Nordhavn district, opened in 2014 with terminal buildings designed for the large ships that begin and end their cruises here. Langelinie is the long quay north of the old city near the Little Mermaid, and Nordre Toldbod is the smallest of the three, used by smaller ships close to the center.

Ship assignments change from call to call, so confirm the berth in your documents. CMP lists ships in port on its website if you want to see who else will be in town.

A Copenhagen Port Day

The Little Mermaid is on the Langelinie waterfront.

Copenhagen is flat, compact and made for walking or cycling. A classic loop from the central quays passes the Little Mermaid and the star-shaped Kastellet fortress, continues to Amalienborg, the royal residence, and ends at Nyhavn for lunch beside the canal. From there a harbor and canal boat tour shows the city from the water in about an hour.

With more time, add Rosenborg Castle and the King’s Garden, the Strøget shopping streets, or Tivoli Gardens near the central station. Visit Copenhagen, the official tourism site, publishes opening times; for guided options see Copenhagen shore excursions.

Starting a Cruise in Copenhagen

  • Fly in at least a day early. Copenhagen is one of the easiest European cities to enjoy jet-lagged: flat, safe and full of cafes.
  • Stay central rather than near the port; the city is where you will want your evening.
  • Ask whether your terminal is Oceankaj before booking transfers. It is the one most likely to need a ride.
  • Keep passports, medicines and a layer of warm clothing in your carry-on for boarding day.

Copenhagen Cruise Port Questions

Which Copenhagen cruise terminal will my ship use?

Large ships and most turnaround calls use the Oceankaj terminals in Nordhavn. Langelinie and Nordre Toldbod, closer to the center, take mid-size and smaller ships. The port assigns berths for each call, so check your cruise documents.

How do I get from the Copenhagen cruise port to the airport?

Taxis and cruise line transfers are the simplest with luggage. Copenhagen Airport is also connected to the city center by metro, which suits travelers who stay in town first.

Can I walk to the Little Mermaid?

From Langelinie, yes; the statue sits on the waterfront there. From Oceankaj it is a ride rather than a walk.
